Product Story

Before nakshi kantha found its way onto sarees, it lived on quilts stitched by women recording what surrounded them — market days, river crossings, a cart pulled by bullocks down a village road. That older, narrative impulse sits at the center of this peacock blue Bangalore silk piece: a driver under a checkered canopy, reins in hand, wheels rendered spoke by spoke, all worked entirely in hand embroidery rather than printed or woven in.

A floral border frames the scene the way a picture gets matted — leaves, blossoms, and looping vines in copper, magenta and gold circling the cart on three sides, stitched with the same running stitch Bengal's needlewomen have used for roughly five centuries. Peacock blue keeps the whole composition cool enough that the scene reads clearly rather than getting lost in colour.

This is not a print run. Desi Aadat releases each pattern in a small, uneven batch, and once this one is gone, no identical piece follows it.
