For Paulami, that someone was Mummun — her grandmother. A woman of warmth, grace, and deep-rooted tradition. A woman who, for as long as Paulami can remember, never wore anything but a saree.

Not just on festivals. Not just for occasions. Every morning, without fail, Mummun would drape her saree with the same quiet ease that most people put on a shirt. It wasn't a ritual, it was simply who she was. The saree wasn't something she wore. It was something she lived in.

Paulami grew up in the soft shadow of that presence. She watched the way Mummun's hands moved across the fabric, knowing, unhurried. She listened to the stories tucked inside each weave, where a particular saree came from, what it was worn for, why it mattered. She learned, the way you learn the most important things in life — not from being taught, but from being there.

Those years planted something in her. A reverence for handcraft. An understanding that a saree is never just cloth, it carries memory, identity, and the quiet pride of generations.

When Paulami and her husband Subhankar began building Desi Aadat, it wasn't a business idea born in a boardroom. It was a feeling that had been growing for years, a deep knowing that these sarees, these traditions, these stories deserve to be kept alive and passed forward.
