Product Story

Birds, in the old language of Nakshi Kantha, were never decoration. Bengal's stitching women read them as freedom, as a wish sent outward — and a bird worked into a kantha carried that wish for whoever received the cloth. This navy blue Bangalore silk saree keeps faith with that reading: small pink-and-white birds perch through a mustard-flowered vine, running-stitched by hand across a deep indigo ground, exactly the way generations of Bengal artisans have layered thread into cloth for half a millennium.

Nothing here is printed. The lime-green leaves, the tulip-shaped blossoms, the striped tricolour border in turquoise, white and gold — every line is the product of a needle worked slowly, patiently, the kind of labour that machine embroidery has never been able to fake convincingly. Bangalore silk gives the base its weight and its quiet sheen, letting the stitched colours sit forward instead of competing with a busy weave.

Desi Aadat sources and stitches every piece in small, uneven batches — not a production run, a scarcity that happens by design. Once this navy blue sells, there won't be a second one identical to it.
