Product Story

Bengal's most loved saree is white with a red border. This one turns it inside out: the field is crimson batik, and the white is the thread. Bands of Kantha stitch run down the pallu like the paar, the border, of a lal paar saree, framing a garden of flowers, curling tendrils, and leaves in white running stitch.

The body is wax-resist batik, its crackle running darker through the crimson in thin veins that never repeat along the length. Three fan-shaped tassels hang at the pallu's end, and blended Bangalore silk keeps it light for a long Puja evening.

One small batch. Desi Aadat won't stitch this one twice.

Design Details

  • Ground: Crimson red wax-resist batik on blended Bangalore silk. The crackle shows as darker red veining and soft light-and-deep patches across the body. The border and pallu are a deeper solid crimson.
  • Kantha work: All in white thread. Six-petal flowers with small centres, pointed and rounded leaves, and curling tendrils on branched stems. Petals and leaves are densely filled, and the branches are worked in running stitch.
  • Pallu: A rectangular flower-and-leaf garden panel framed by bands of parallel Kantha running-stitch lines. A smaller matching floral panel sits at the top of the pallu. Three fan-shaped tassel motifs with scroll tops close the end.
  • Hem and pleats: A floral vine band with a small triangle trim, plus matching striped bands along the lower drape.
