Product Story

This saree carries two crafts, not one. The crimson isn't flat colour — it's wax-resist batik, dyed the way Bengal's artisans learned it: hot wax drawn onto silk, dye pulled through what's left bare, wax boiled away to leave that veined, crackled depth no printing machine can fake. Every crease of colour you see is where the wax cracked slightly differently, which is another way of saying no two lengths of this fabric were ever identical to begin with.

Onto that ground, Kantha takes over. Dense white floral vines run the length of the border and spill fully across the pallu — leaves, blossoms, a stylised tree rising from a striped base — worked entirely in running stitch, by hand, thread by thread. Batik gives the colour its depth; Kantha gives the cloth its detail.

One small batch, wax and thread both spent on it. Desi Aadat won't remake this exact piece again.
